Karl Schook is an associate at Tobin & Muñoz, L.L.C., concentrating on state and federal trial practice in white-collar criminal defense, civil rights, commercial and tort litigation. He has assisted in numerous cases including the federal jury trial Fegan v. City of Chicago, et al., where Chicago police officers were found liable of conspiring to falsely arrest and exert excessive force on a city traffic management authority supervisor, which an officer carried out, after the supervisor was unable to nonsuit a traffic ticket on one of the police officer’s personal vehicle, resulting in a verdict of $1.5 million in compensatory damages as well as attorneys fees and costs; defense of a wholesale pharmaceutical distributor accused of conspiring to defraud the United States; and representation of public officials in civil rights and tort litigation at the federal level.
Prior to joining the firm as an associate in 2007, Schook served as a law clerk for nearly two years while he attended law school. During his time as a law clerk, he assisted in the successful defense of a business owner under multiple indictments for defrauding her business partners, as well the awarding of a permanent injunction and attorney’s fees against a restaurant accused of willfully violating the Illinois Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Schook received his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he was on the Dean’s List and served as a member of the student bar association. While in law school, he served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Judge A.J. Greiman, Illinois Appellate Court, First District, and contributed to several opinions.
